A brass bottle opener, playfully styled into the form of a tiger. The useful object dates from the 1950's and was designed by Walter Bosse for Herta Baller, Austria.

The tiger is one of Bosse's more abstract and strikingly modernist designs. The feline form has been simplified greatly, and rendered into a slender and practical shape. The tiger's signature stripes have been simplified too, and polished, to be in high-contrast to the patinated brass. The mouth is shaped in a way to allow the tiger to open bottles with a bite.

Walter Bosse is best known for his whimsical 'black-golden' line of patinated brass animals. Early examples, like this, are revered for both their quality of design and manufacture.
