A characterful brass letter holder designed by Walter Bosse in the early 1950's, depicting the three wise "Hear no Evil, See no Evil, Speak no Evil" monkeys, a pictorial maxim from Japan. The object has been expertly handmade in Vienna, Austria, at the Herta Baller workshop.

Each of the three monkeys has been stylised in the playful & informal manner so typical of Bosse's much-loved work. In tradition, the three wise monkeys are Japanese macaques, and Bosse has indicated this important detail with the monkey's heavy brow. The three monkeys have been cast together and are linking arms in a friendly fashion; this small detail is not often seen on other depictions of the three wise monkeys, and conveys so perfectly the distinct artistry & personality of the designer, Walter Bosse.

The three monkeys stand on a rectangular brass base, which features a brass arch to hold letters. The design belongs to Bosse's renowned & highly collectable ‘black-golden’ line of cast brass sculptures and home accessories in the form of animals. This piece is more substantial than the majority of Bosse's work, and would make an exceptional & useful addition to any home.
