A sleek letter opener adorned with a stylised owl. This sculptural Modernist object was designed by Walter Bosse and made by Herta Baller, in the early-1950s, Austria.

The owl perched atop the handle-end of the letter opener tilts its head and communicates the brilliant knowingness that these majestic birds are renowned. 

It is Walter Bosse's talent for capturing the essence of animals that has secured his works lasting appeal.

Like the best works of Modernism, Bosse's representations are fresh and seemingly simple, yet deceptively complex. In the art world, the applicable term is 'efficiency of line'.
