A vintage 1950's Herta Baller production Walter Bosse corkscrew in the form of a monkey.

Like many of Bosse’s best designs, this cheeky monkey bottle opener is ergonomic and usable, as well as wonderfully fun and playful. The body of the monkey, walking on all fours, is solid sand-cast brass whilst the corkscrew is steel. Most of the figure is black-patinated, but the monkey's bottom, nose, brow, and the tips of his ears and toes have been polished back to reveal the golden yellow of the brass.

Owing to the ‘black-golden’ contrast, the quality of the materials used, and the expertise of those involved with Herta Baller production (both at the foundry and in the workshop) each and every subtle feature of Bosse’s small monkey sculpture is perceptible and successful in communicating the characteristics of a cheeky monkey. This design in particular reminds us of the especially naughty monkeys you might encounter at an East Asian temple.
