Walter Bosse Flared Biomorphic Pot
A decorative brass pot designed by Walter Bosse and produced in Austria by Herta Baller c.1950.
Although Walter Bosse is best known for his playful brass animal figurines, he also designed many sleek and stylish trays, bowls & dishes that reflect the softened geometry and elegant character of 1950's Modernist design.
Handmade in Vienna to the highest standard, this object is an incredibly refined vessel for jewellery, coins, and other everyday items. The flowing triangular form, with its flared silhouette and soft, rounded edges beautifully demonstrates the sophistication of biomorphic Modernism.
The object has been black-patinated in the traditional Viennese manner, while the rim or mouth of the piece has been polished back to reveal the golden yellow brass. This 'highlight' introduces a contrast which is both striking and decorative. The bowl's interior has a lightly textured, hammered surface which contributes to the objects handmade nature and unsurpassed quality.
