Unique Flower Shaped Swedish Candlestick
A delicate Scandinavian candlestick in the form of abstracted flowers, possibly a unique handmade Swedish design from the 1960s.
The base of the item is a mound of weighty cast brass, the shape is asymmetric and organic and reminiscent of a tuft of earth. Raising out of the base are three brass poles of differing heights and shaped to represent stylised flower stems. Atop the stems are, of course, flower shaped roundels of glass, hand-tooled to suggest petals and, at the same time, act as drip pans for the candles that screw onto the centre of each flower head.
We believe this item to be unique, rather than a production piece. However, even if another does exist the handmade design dictates that any related pieces will all be unique.
Perhaps because brass and glass are more commonly associated with production made pieces, the bright-golden-yellow of the metal and thick green-tinted sparkling glass somewhat contrast with the evidently handmade aspect of each part of the candlestick. The result of this surprising juxtaposition is very attracting.
The only thing more charming than having this candlestick adorn your mantlepiece, sideboard or table is having it lit.
