A delightful porcelain mermaid figurine, designed by Susan Parkinson and created at her pottery in Brabourne Lees, Kent, circa 1955.

Susan Parkinson's 'Small Mermaid' evokes the playful and fun-filled spirit of the golden age of British seaside holidays, having somehow lost her shell bra, perhaps to a stormy sea.

Like many of Parkinson's smaller creations, the mermaid was likely intended as a cherished souvenir, retailed through a high-end coastal gift shop.

The porcelain figure has been freely decorated with Parkinson's signature expressive brushwork; the thick, wavy hair and rhythmic scales are particularly effective.

The figure is finished with a characterful face and a distinctly cheeky grin.
