A tall and slender candelabra for seven candles made purely of brass in Sweden in the 1950s.
The circular base of the item is a turned shape like the streamlined mouth of a trumpet. Continuing upwards out of the narrow end of the spun foot is a pole that raises to approximately 25cm before it is interrupted by a brass disk from which six branches stem outwards, and one upwards.
Symmetrically placed, each identical outwardly arm undulates in the shape of an ’S’ before arriving at its drip tray and sconce. Highlighting the design's symmetry are three lines inscribed around each sconce, the circularity of the drip pans and the spherical nuts that attach the arms in place.
Without doubt the candlestick is informed and inspired by classical design, but in a way typical of Nordic design. Being also, unfussy, unimposing, fresh, and a little unexpected.
Resultantly, this is a piece with great appeal and longevity. People want to keep it around, and when lit, gather around it.
