Richard Rohac Chamois Bottle Opener
A chamois-goat bottle opener designed by Richard Rohac and handmade in Vienna, Austria, c.1950.
This functional piece reflects the quality of Viennese metalwork during the mid-20th century, and exemplifies the style and precision of Rohac's sculptural works. Beautifully modelled, this interpretation of a chamois mountain goat demonstrates Rohac's typical Art Deco influences with its clean lines and strong, striking appearance.
The sculptural figure has been black-patinated in the traditional Viennese fashion, and applied to a triangular caplifter with polished edges.
The chamois goat was a recurring motif for Rohac and his contemporaries, including Walter Bosse. As a national symbol of Austria and an emblem of the Alps, it was a popular subject for finely crafted souvenirs sought by visitors to the region.
