A colossal torpedo-shaped vase from Per Lütken's 'Grønland' series, designed in 1960 for Holmegaard, Denmark.

Per Lütken's 'Grønland' was an extensive series of free-blown forms united by their deep, richly-pigmented Mørkegrøn (dark-green) glass. The most extraordinary item from the series was this piece, the largest of two elliptical vases.

Standing at 41cm, the towering form widens from a narrow base before tapering towards its rim. The dramatic proportions and uninterrupted sweep of dark green glass gives the otherwise simple form a highly dramatic, almost monolithic quality.

With its exceptional scale, strong silhouette and richly saturated colour, this is a highly decorative piece of Scandinavian Modern glass, with an architectural quality that makes it particularly effective within an interior.
