Kaj Franck KF 268 Tyrian Purple Vase
A substantial hand-blown KF 268 vase in tyrian purple and clear glass, designed by Kaj Franck for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.
Created in 1960, this heavy cased-glass vase with quiet formal drama illustrates Franck’s highly disciplined approach to design.
With its refined conical silhouette and a distinctive, exaggerated foot the design focuses on geometry, proportions, and allowing the glass to show off its materiality.
The depth of colour and weight of the glass give the piece a strong architectural presence. The pontil mark has been deeply ground up into the base creating an area where light is reflected and refracted which draws the eye downward through the structure of the vase.
