Kaj Franck KF 233 "Canoe" Vide Poche
A dark blue KF 233 'Canoe' vide poche, designed in 1951 by Kaj Franck for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.
The KF 233 is a small but beautifully sculptural design. Its compact oval body sweeps upwards at either end to create the distinctive canoe-like silhouette from which the piece takes its name. Despite its modest scale, the exaggerated curve and depth of colour give the object a surprisingly strong and dynamic presence.
Both decorative and functional, the KF 233 exemplifies Franck's ability to achieve considerable visual impact through remarkably simple means. The combination of rich, saturated colour and an expressive geometric form makes this object a particularly satisfying, tactile example of his work for Nuutajärvi.
