Kaj Franck 1428 Tallest Grey Vase
A large and impressively precise geometric vase, designed by Kaj Franck in 1963 for Nuutajärvi Glassworks, Finland.
Composed of two opposing truncated cones, this 22.5 cm tall model KF 1428 vessel reflects Franck's longstanding interest in simple geometry and carefully balanced proportions. The form is both sculptural and functional, with a clarity that is characteristic of much of his work.
The vase was produced using the turn-mould blown technique, whereby the molten glass gather is rotated within the mould whilst being blown to eliminate seam lines. This process results in a clean surface and sharply defined silhouette.
Also allowing the geometry of the design to be fully appreciated is the soft grey colour of the glass which gives the piece a calm, understated presence.
