Kaj Franck 1428 Amber Vase
An impressively precise geometric vase, designed by Kaj Franck in 1963 for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.
Composed of two opposing truncated cones, this model KF 1428 vessel reflects Franck's longstanding interest in simple geometry and carefully balanced proportions. The resulting form is both sculptural and functional, with a clarity that is characteristic of much of his work.
The vase was produced using the turn-mould blown technique, whereby the molten glass gather is rotated within the mould to eliminate seam lines. This process creates a particularly crisp surface and silhouette, allowing the form to be appreciated in its purest state.
Produced in two different sizes, 19 cm and 22.5 cm, this example is the smaller version. The larger design can be seen here.
