A shouldered stoneware vase by Jim Malone, one of Britain's foremost potters, handmade in his studio in Ainstable, Cumbria, England, during the latter part of the 20th Century.

This wheel-thrown vase, like most of Jim Malone's work, is inspired by traditional Japanese pottery. This inspiration is not only felt in the vase's simple, honest & practical form, but also the reddish-brown iron-rich 'kaki' glaze. This warm & earthy glaze originates from the town of Mashiko, Japan, and emerged during the Edo period (17th-19th Century).

The vase has been decorated with abstract, painterly reeds, which are achieved using the wax resist method.
