A frosted decanter by Jacob Bang for Holmegaard, 1937, depicting a cheerily drunken sailor exclaiming, in Danish, "Skaal!" (Cheers!).

The character on this decanter was hand-painted with enamel paint. The item was fired to adhere the image permanently.

This lighthearted decanter is a relatively early example of Jacob Bang's work, designed in 1937. Bang is regarded as one of Denmark's first industrial designers, whose long career was instrumental in the success of Danish design from the 1930's into the 1960's.
