An opaline glass carafe & four glasses with rattan grip designed by Jacob Bang for Kastrup Glassworks, Denmark.

This drinks set was designed and made in 1957 as part of Jacob Bang's 'Opaline' series, which included many decanters, jars, and vases all produced in opaque white glass.

Variations of some of the designs were produced, and examples like this with applied rattan collars are the most desirable amongst collectors. The warm, organic colours of the vintage rattan are in harmonious contrast with the white glass, and result in a striking yet sophisticated design.

Both the pitcher and glasses function fantastically but they are also very sculptural. Indeed Bang's success can be attributed to him appreciating that commercially produced glass must be as much about utility as it is art. Art & Utility.
