A stout vase with a flared mouth in grey-blue and clear cased glass, designed by Inkeri Toikka (partner to Oiva Toikka), for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.

Designed around 1975, this distinctive vessel possesses an unusual form, reminiscent of an antique mallet-shaped wine bottle whose neck has been dramatically tapered open at the rim.

In addition to the shape of this piece being surprising and interesting to look at, the wide taper of the mouth functions brilliantly for arranging a decent sized bouquet of flowers.

When empty the dark-grey-blue colour of the vase allows the silhouette and geometry of the design to be fully appreciated.
