A large clear 'Carborundum' bowl by Erik Höglund, designed circa 1955 for Boda, Sweden.

This substantial bowl is part of an experimental series in which silicon carbide was added to the melting furnace. The result of this inclusion is an even coverage of speckles which create a shimmering iridescence. Within this piece, this effect is heightened as the surface of the glass is gently rippled.

Höglund's 'Carborundum' items are more commonly found in a blue colour. They were first presented to the public in 1956, and were in production for only a short time.

This tactile bowl is a decorative, practical, and usable object from this highly desirable series.
