Erik Höglund Acorn Box
A staved pine storage box in the form of an acorn, designed by Erik Höglund for Boda, Sweden, circa 1960.
This useful handmade box has been skilfully crafted from Swedish pine. Its organic form takes inspiration from an acorn, rendered by Höglund in a brilliantly simplified and refined manner. The gently curved acorn box features a tooled rim and a tactile hemispherical lid, finished with a small, perfectly formed handle.
The box forms part of a wider series of similarly shaped designs, some of which combine wood with green glass. This unusual all-wood example makes full use of the gorgeous, lively grain of timber cut from Småland’s vast pine forests.
