A pineapple shaped jug produced by Michael Andersen & Sons, Bornholm, Denmark, circa 1935.

This uniquely organic interpretation of the Art Deco style is highly playful and decorative, but also functions as a usable object. The tactile jug has been glazed in a warm, yellow glaze and consists of a rounded form with heavily textured 'pineapple' surface, from which grows a handle reminiscent of leaves.

Michael Andersen & Sons was founded in the 1880's by Jens Michael Andersen, who employed his four sons at the pottery. The company are best known for the wares produced in the mid-20th century under the direction of Marianne Starck. Earlier examples of the potteries' output, such as this Art Deco jug, are difficult to find.
